Governance

The Lake Mahon Protective Association (LMPA) was formed in 1952.

The original constitution was amended in 1986, e.g., so the annual meeting would be held on or before the fourth Sunday in July instead of May.

In 2007, members approved a new Charter and Bylaws prepared by President Brian Roadhouse based on other cottage association charters and circulated prior to the meeting. Members also approved fees of $10 for Association membership and $30 for road maintenance.

In 2008, the Association was officially incorporated with the provincial government as a non-profit “personne morale” under the name Mahon Lake Protective Association (Association protectrice du Lac Mahon), raising the profile of the Association and making it eligible for an annual municipal grant subject to certain conditions.

Membership

Many descendants of early cottagers have remained on the lake (e.g., Johannsen, Roy, McElligott, Shouldice, Skinner, Robertson, Martelock, Hodgins, Ryckman), whereas other cottages changed hands over the years. Attached is a membership history for the years 1957, 1962, 1971, 1979, 1994, 2010, and 2026, with corresponding map numbers. Also attached are membership lists for 1979 and 2001.

See LMPA History for more on the history of the Association.
