Wetlands

As described in Shorelines, wetlands (marshes) are an important part of Lac Mahon, accounting for about 40% of the total shoreline. See the shoreline map (also the home page Google map, using satellite imagery).

Wetlands are sponges, absorbing phosphates and other nutrients, thereby slowing the growth of algae and aquatic weeds. Wetlands also provide habitat to a wide range of fish, amphibians, reptiles, insects, mammals, and especially birds (see the attachments).
