Nesbitt Logging
Post date: Apr 23, 2026
From July to September 2025, an extensive logging operation was carried out on Nesbitt property east of Lac Mahon, using heavy equipment in the bush.
The Association Executive was not informed about the work and (along with members) had questions and concerns about
the nature and scope of the operation, including cleared tracks into the bush
clean-up of branches and fallen trees to help prevent and not feed fires
deforestation resulting in livestock coming too close to the creek that flows into Lac Mahon from the beaver pond
road damage
whether a permit was needed and obtained
possible residential development.
These issues (accompanied by photos) were addressed to Councillor Pam Ross and municipal inspectors. The MLPA also indicated it would oppose any future application for residential development, including any application to rezone agricultural land.
The contractor repaired a stretch of Ch. Moncrieff traversed by logging equipment. In December, a municipal inspector advised that a permit application for tree cutting was duly submitted and approved. The permit was granted following a study conducted by a forestry engineer, which included forestry recommendations specifying the work to be carried out, as well as a compliant forest management plan.
Update May 28 - The inspector could not confirm whether there will be any further tree cutting this year, however the municipal permit is valid until October 2026.
